Unit 10 Analyse and research the audience 10.1.1-10.1.2

Fundraising in social media

Project plot synopsis

My final idea for Unit 13 will be of the build up of a revolution in England and the focus will be around an N.H.S doctor who lost her job because of the massive inflation in the economy and since the food banks were being to more scarce and homelessness begins to sky rockets, she soon began to take in the ideology the of communist party and sooner or later became the leader and eventually she began to a demonstration against the government over these policy that are hurting the country and soon eventually a revolution begins.

But since this is short film, I’ll just focus on a central character from either bottom of the social class during the crash of 2019 and see how they deal with this situation and their fates after the revolution.

This is going to be an animation venture with a bit of live action in the mix, the live action section would be from the beginning and the end as the establishing shots of Sheffield after an interview of someone who’s identity is hidden through lights, and a white flash transition back to the end of the interveiw hall as the main capital of England changing from London to Sheffield.

For the animation portion his will be the majority of the as this could be used to expand the visual, show more size and scope of both the situation after the crash and the revolution itself.

What is my target audiences

My target audience is mainly young adults from 18 to 34 who are in the work place who feel displaced and disenfranchised by the current economic policies today and I’ll focus on female and male demographics because this situation effects everybody.

Since most young people use social media like Facebook or YouTube, this will be a matter of getting them on board and connect with them and what they like especially thoughts who like animation and political dramas.

And with social media platforms like Facebook and YouTube I’ll be able reach out them in a the most quickest way possible and be able to reach in a wide open internet as well as getting a few donations from a crowdfunding website and bringing in some more people through links.

I think the best platform to go on is Facebook as it’s the most used out of all the social media plat forms, especially among young people, so this would get a lot more people on board to the project and the more popular the social network the more people to advertise to.

I think that given how most young people want to get out there and change the world and challenge authority. If I advertise this right in my campaign I think this could generate the right amount of hype and excitement that it could help me in my crowdfunding venture to help make the production more effective.

Film festivals

Film festivals at the show room in Sheffield will be the perfect place to show my proof of concept to people to see how my film is viable and marketable to the audience as well the final product when completed.

Here are a few examples of what film festivals I could show my film.

  • Screentest: The Nation student film festival–London
  • Aesthetica short film festival–York
  • Leeds’s young peoples film festival

A survey/focus groups

Here is the result of my survey I did to see what was the most popular social media platform.

Social media and fundraising

Crowd funding and advertising campaigns use ideal trailers on television as well as marketing through merchandising. But today social media outlets like Facebook, twitter and the all others like them are now becoming a more efficient way of spreading the word and promoting whatever project you set out to create for what type of audience you like.

One of the things to do in a successful social media campaign is engagement, you need to post some hashtags to show your demographic new content to get them exited, but spread out in a length of time to have begging for more, and getting more and more interested in the film your making.

Another thing to keep in mind is responsibility. Now this is where you have to give of a positive out let throughout the campaign, if for say you are doing a charity campaign you need to be honest, genuine and charismatic.

Facts and statistics from secondary sources

Here are going to see examples of analysing how many people would go on different social media.

Facebook

Facebook is a social media platform that from what I can gather is the most used social media website of all time, as of January 2017 with over 1.870 million achieve users and over 18 % of the market share.

As you can see the usage of the

internet by most people has gone up over the years ,and people are beginning

And on the website statista I looked at the the amount of of people who use Facebook by age and gender.

  • Here are the results from 13-17 –5% of males use Facebook more the female which is 4%
  • 18-24 has 12% of women and 18% use Facebook.
  • 25-34 has 12% of women and 17% use Facebook.
  • 35-44 has 7% of women and 8% men use Facebook.
  • 45-54 has both men and women at 4% who use Facebook
  • 55-64 has 3% of women and 2% men use Facebook
  • And finally 65 and over shows that both women and men of 2% uses Facebook

This could help me in finding an audience and they could be in young people because a lot of young people are in financial disposition right now with crippling dept from university and the prices of homes are sky rocketing to the point of being completely affordable.

And so Facebook can be the main place for my campaign for the budget and advertisement because of the networks over whelming usage by young adult and showing that the numbers are going up and up from what I’m seeing.

Now YouTube is a good place to show off your content or use short trailers to show off projects and link the video down below either to get to your own website or because of the YouTube “Copyright” system, I know this from experience that content is posted and people comment on the video positive or negative.

And here is a survey listed of all the countries that uses YouTube the most as of 2016.

Now the first thing I need to keep in mind is to set up realistic goals for my project and be able to work harder then I ever had.

The results

Here are the results of my survey of 22 participants in my survey and the results at the bottom are clear.

The most popular social media site is Facebook and is the most preferred outlet for social media is Facebook and Most of the people who participated in this survey is female and between 18 and 20 who go on the sites for 1-2 hours.

From what I can gather from the survey I think that the most effective way on getting and interacting with an audience is through social media sites like Facebook because this site is the most polar in my survey and from the data I receive my best bet in getting an audience is to use Facebook to begin my campaign.

Because of the popularity of Facebook I think I can reach a wider audience and to also to show off some of the production to millions of people and simultaneously use this to get donation for my crowdfunding campaign. Also I have a lot of teenagers and young adults who go on social media regularly and this can be beneficial since the theme of my film is rebellion and most young people want to step up and make something of them selves and change the world around them, so best bets is their would be a sizable audience with a crowd funding success.

I also found out that comedy is the popular genre in the survey and in the chart results chart with drama in 2nd. Now since my intended genre be a docudrama this might be a bit difficult to gain a larger audience but I still have a good size in interested for my film and I might have a bit comedy in the film to get a secondary audience for more interest.

Crowdfunding

This is where you gain a required budget for a film project by asking for donation from people on the internet and giving them rewards in return whether the project is a successful or not.

Film festival and all other projects I any forms, but I’m going to focus on film and I’m going to show example of success stories involving some Indy film maker producing a film with a company or studio breathing down your necks by finances through crowdfunding.

The AVGN movie

In 2009 James Rolfe began a crowdfunding campaign to make b movies style film based on his internet video game series that had entertaining millions of people on the web since 2004.

The campaign began in 2011 with donation that has been giving out different prizes depending on the amount of money donated. For example if you give $10 you get a special video sent to you by James himself, $30 you get an autographed photo and so much more the higher you go up in money.

Many people were giving donations in like crazy with some giving doubts that it wouldn’t work, but despite that the campaign was a big success with the money raised to $325,327 by at least 6788 backers, making it possible to to begin production.

In 2014 the film was finished and released at the Grauman’s Egyptian theatre in Hollywood with mixed feeling from critics.

And here is a link to the go fund me page of the film: Avgn the movie

Go fund me page

This could be a good example on how I could get some money for the budget in with rewards for the back on how much they give whatever what some promotions.

An example a huge media promotional campaign on social media is Thor Ragnarok, the up coming M.C.U film, on the Facebook page we can see lot’s of TV spots and trails for the film as well as posters with Hashtags that lead to it’s twitter account.

Screen Shot 2017-10-04 at 09.25.11

As you can see we see Chris Hemsworth in these pictures from comic con picture pose  a banner on the Facebook page in It’s one media campaign.

Another element is the interviews with actors to get their take on the production and promote the film simultaneously.

One of the things to get people interested or stills of the production to get an idea of what production is like and makes feel more involved and connected to the production of the film and in turn would build up excitement.

As you can see on the middle right corner you can see how successful the campaign was by the amount of likes and followers there are, when you have that much people liking your promotional page of your film, you gain that by engaging to the audience by asking them questions with a survey and giving out a positive look to the film and a feeling of community when you follow a film especially if it’s a film from a familiar serious like marvel or star wars.

If it’s completely original you need to build audience confidence by writing a story while also knowing your audience as what their interested in and how they can be compatible with the film your making.

When you show picture of the cast and crew in one picture show how how well they work together and to see as proof of concept for all people involve from cast and crew that could help them in future media productions from Films, tv shows or video games for the future, or just the cast of both Thor and black panther to show how well they get on and how they get along to work better together.
